Edo Decorator Hacked to Death at Burial Venue in Benin City, Suspect Arrested

Tragedy has struck in Benin City, Edo State, following the brutal killing of a 30-year-old event decorator, identified as Esohe Aigbe, who was hacked to death by unidentified assailants while on a decoration assignment.

Aigbe had gone to Ojo Street in Ogida Quarters, Benin City, on May 27 to assist a friend with decorating a funeral venue when she was attacked with a machete by yet-to-be-identified persons. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault.

According to sources, Aigbe had completed the decoration work and was still within the venue when the assailants struck. The attack was carried out swiftly before the perpetrators fled, leaving the victim with severe injuries.

Some good Samaritans rushed to the scene and took her to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), where she was confirmed dead due to the deep machete wounds she sustained.

Family and associates described the deceased as a breadwinner whose life was tragically cut short in the line of duty, noting she had built a strong reputation in the community for her exceptional work decorating funeral and event venues. They called on security agencies to ensure those responsible are found and prosecuted, and appealed to anyone with information to report it to the police.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the incident and disclosed that a suspect had been arrested.

The killing has sent shockwaves through the Benin City community, with residents demanding justice for the slain decorator.
