“Nobody Was Imposed!” — NDC Spokesman Fires Back Over Primaries Controversy

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has strongly and categorically rejected allegations that the party imposed candidates on constituencies during its recently concluded primaries, with the party’s spokesman issuing a firm and detailed rebuttal of what he described as misleading and politically motivated claims.

The NDC spokesman, speaking with unmistakable conviction and clarity, insisted that the party’s primaries were conducted in a manner that was free, fair, transparent, and fully reflective of the democratic will of party members across all constituencies — dismissing the imposition allegations as a deliberate attempt to smear the party’s reputation and sow seeds of discord among its members.

“The NDC never imposed any candidate on any constituency. Our primaries were conducted according to the party’s constitution and in full compliance with democratic principles. Every candidate that emerged did so through a legitimate and transparent process,” the spokesman declared firmly.

The denial comes amid growing controversy surrounding the conduct of the NDC’s primaries in several constituencies, with aggrieved members and losing candidates alleging that the outcomes were predetermined and that preferred candidates were deliberately favoured by party leadership at the expense of genuine democratic competition.

The NDC spokesman rejected these characterisations entirely, arguing that the allegations were being pushed primarily by individuals who participated in the primaries, lost fairly, and are now seeking to delegitimise the process rather than accepting the democratic verdict of their fellow party members.

He urged all NDC members — including those who did not emerge victorious from the primaries — to accept the results in good faith, close ranks behind the party’s candidates, and focus their energy and resources on delivering victory for the NDC in the 2027 general elections.

The spokesman also called on the public and the media to be cautious and discerning in their consumption of allegations against the party, stressing that not every claim of imposition or manipulation reflects the actual reality of what transpired during the primaries.

Political observers say the NDC’s swift and forceful response to the imposition allegations reflects the party’s awareness that internal crisis narratives — if left unchallenged — can rapidly snowball into electoral liabilities that undermine a party’s standing with voters ahead of a crucial election cycle.

The NDC’s national leadership is said to be actively engaging aggrieved members through internal reconciliation channels, with the party keen to present a united and confident front as it prepares for the highly competitive 2027 electoral season.
