Tinubu Embarks on Tour Using Aged Presidential Jet After Failed Sale

President Bola Tinubu on Saturday departed Abuja for a multi-state tour to Borno, Bauchi, and Lagos, utilizing the 20-year-old Boeing 737 Business Jet acquired during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.

The aircraft, with tail number 5N-FGT, was recently pulled from an international sales platform after months of unsuccessful attempts to sell it. Government officials cited poor buyer interest and offers as low as $10 million, far below expectations, as reasons for delisting the jet.

The President’s itinerary includes inaugurating projects in Maiduguri, Borno State, paying a condolence visit to the family of the late Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, in Bauchi, and spending the Christmas holidays in Lagos.

Security has been heightened in Borno ahead of the visit, with the state police command deploying tactical teams and explosive disposal operatives.

The jet, purchased in 2005 for $43 million, had been earmarked for sale as part of cost-cutting measures before its return to active service.
