Abia Central — Chief Chukwunma Nnochiri, a hopeful for the Abia Central Senatorial seat, has called on state governors across Nigeria to immediately comply with the Supreme Court judgment granting financial autonomy to local governments.
In a telephone discussion with CDA News, Nnochiri commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the implementation of the ruling, stating that direct funding to local councils will accelerate grassroots development, reduce financial recklessness by state governments, and strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
“Local Government financial autonomy will grant rapid development in the local communities across the 36 states. It will reduce financial recklessness of states manipulating council funds if properly supervised,” he emphasized.
Senatorial Ambition:
Speaking on his mission to the Senate, Nnochiri pledged to provide quality leadership and inclusive representation for the people of Abia Central if elected, promising to prioritize legislation that promotes transparency, development, and democratic accountability.
He highlighted the importance of a “well-developed democratic space” for national progress and affirmed his commitment to contributing to it both as an advocate and a potential lawmaker.
