Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has taken decisive action against rising insecurity in the state. On Friday, he signed Executive Order No. 002 of 2026, barring commercial motorcycle operators — popularly known as okada riders — from operating between 10:30 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. statewide.
The order is aimed at strengthening security, enforcing vehicle registration regulations, and improving traffic management across Oyo State. Makinde noted that unregistered vehicles, motorcycles, and tricycles had increasingly been used to carry out criminal activities.
The restriction follows coordinated attacks on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area on May 15, when pupils and teachers were abducted from Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School — with victims still in captivity more than 20 days later.
Addressing residents, Makinde offered assurance without disclosing operational details. “We may not be able to disclose every step being taken because of the sensitive nature of the operations involved, but I ask our people not to mistake our silence for inaction,” he said.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to securing the release of the abducted victims, describing every day they remain in captivity as painful for their families and the entire state.
He called on residents to cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements promptly.
