Nobody Can Stop Me from Going Anywhere in Nigeria — Sheikh Gumi

Controversial Islamic scholar and negotiator with bandits, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, has declared that no individual or authority can stop him from going anywhere in Nigeria, following his recent visit to Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after a private meeting in Ibadan, Gumi responded to critics who had questioned his presence in the South-West, given his history of engaging bandits in the North-West.

“Nobody can stop me from going anywhere in Nigeria. This country belongs to all of us. I am a Nigerian citizen with the same rights as any governor, minister, or president,” Gumi stated.

He dismissed insinuations that his visit was politically motivated, insisting that he was in Ibadan for “religious and social engagements” unrelated to his bandit negotiation efforts.

The scholar’s movements have drawn mixed reactions over the years, with some praising his peace efforts and others accusing him of legitimizing criminals.

Oyo State authorities have yet to comment on Gumi’s visit or his declaration. Security agencies have also remained silent on the matter.
