The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially confirmed former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations with party stakeholders across the country.
The party described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a union of “two tested statesmen” with the experience, national appeal and leadership capacity needed to address Nigeria’s challenges.
According to the statement, Amaechi’s extensive public service record—including serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State and Minister of Transportation—makes him well-suited for the role.
“The proposed partnership between His Excellency Atiku Abubakar and Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi represents more than a political alliance; it is the coming together of two tested statesmen committed to rescuing Nigeria,” the party stated.
The announcement formally settles days of speculation over Atiku’s choice of a running mate ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
