FCT Police operatives have rescued a 36-year-old woman, Grace Aniekuoku, who was allegedly chained and locked in a room by her brother for over one year and four months in the Mpape area of Abuja .
FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the command received a distress call on June 12, 2026, and immediately deployed detectives from Katampe Division to the scene . Upon arrival, the suspect, Chinedu Aniekuoku, resisted officers, forcing police to invoke their powers of ingress to gain entry . Officers found the victim in chains, severely emaciated, and living in her own waste under deplorable conditions .
Sanusi described it as one of the most dehumanising scenes officers had encountered, adding that the victim’s neck was thinner than a camera stand . She was rushed to the hospital, where she is receiving treatment .
Investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly taken the victim’s son to an unknown location about two years ago and confined her to prevent her from questioning the child’s whereabouts . Efforts are ongoing to trace and rescue the missing child. The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged upon conclusion of investigations .
