APC Secretary Reveals “Back-Channel” Talks to End Rivers Crisis, Engages Wike and Fubara

ABUJA – The All Progressives Congress (APC) has broken its official silence on the Rivers State political crisis, revealing that it is actively engaged in high-level “back-channel” negotiations to broker peace between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his estranged predecessor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a rare public insight on TVC News on Thursday, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, stated that while the public sees legal battles, the real resolution is being pursued away from the spotlight. “Real politics is rarely conducted via press statements,” Basiru said, describing politicians as “nocturnal animals” who make key decisions “in the hours of darkness.”

He confirmed that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, despite being a member of the PDP, is being engaged as a critical stakeholder and supporter of President Bola Tinubu to achieve an amicable solution with “no victor and no vanquished.” This marks a significant de-escalation from earlier public spats between Basiru and the minister.

The APC aims for a political settlement that stabilizes the state, which it considers crucial for the success of the Tinubu administration. Basiru framed the Rivers reconciliation as part of the party’s broader “Renewed 4 for 2027” expansionist strategy, which has seen it attract several governors from opposition parties.

The disclosure signals a strategic shift by the ruling party, opting for discreet diplomacy over public commentary to resolve one of the nation’s most volatile political standoffs.
