The United States has deported a Nigerian national, Ayodeji Olamide Ajayi, following multiple criminal convictions including domestic violence, as part of Washington’s intensified immigration enforcement campaign.
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency disclosed this in a statement posted on its official X account on Tuesday, revealing that Ajayi had entered the United States in 2007 on a student visa but failed to depart after leaving school.
According to ICE, rather than returning to Nigeria upon abandoning his studies, Ajayi accumulated a lengthy criminal record over the nearly two decades he remained in the country illegally.
The agency did not specify the full list of offences but confirmed that domestic violence convictions featured prominently among the charges that triggered his removal.
ICE described the deportation as part of its broader and ongoing immigration enforcement operations targeting foreign nationals who have violated the terms of their visas and committed crimes on American soil.
Ajayi’s case reflects a pattern increasingly highlighted by US immigration authorities under the current enforcement regime — foreign students who complete or abandon their studies but choose to remain in the country unlawfully, sometimes accumulating criminal records over extended periods.
His deportation serves as a fresh warning to Nigerian nationals and other foreign students in the United States about the consequences of overstaying visas and engaging in criminal conduct.
