Abia Police Arrest Man Over Son’s Torture

The operatives of the Abia State Police Command have arrested a man, Uzoma Uwaeme, over an incident in which he allegedly stripped, tied up and flogged his 13-year-old son under the scorching sun in Aba.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Command disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, noting that the suspect is the victim’s biological father, whose mother had allegedly left the marriage.

According to the statement, the arrest followed a viral video showing the teenager bound with ropes, visibly injured and exposed to harsh weather. The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Afolabi, reportedly directed operatives of the Abayi Divisional Police Headquarters to trace and apprehend the suspect at his residence on Nwokocha Street, off Udeabara Road, Aba.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the teenager had been rescued and given medical attention. The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation, with the suspect currently in police custody.

CP Afolabi condemned the act as inhumane and a gross violation of the child’s rights, reaffirming the Command’s zero-tolerance stance on child abuse and domestic violence. He assured that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Command urged the public to promptly report cases of abuse to the nearest police station.
