Governorship Campaigns Begin Nationwide For 2027

governorship candidates across the country have intensified campaigns for the 2027 elections, unveiling agendas centred on security, agriculture, education, healthcare and workers’ welfare, following the formal commencement of the campaign period on Wednesday, September 9.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that seven ADC governorship candidates in the North-West signed a regional compact in Abuja pledging a N110,000 minimum wage, 21 specialist hospitals and coordinated security measures. In Adamawa, APC’s Tijani Galadima promised agro-processing factories, while Kaduna APC pledged an issue-based campaign built on Governor Uba Sani’s record.

In Abia, PDP’s Kelechi Anosike launched a 10-point “People First” manifesto promising mechanised farming, a Traders Microfinance Bank and a N90,000 minimum wage. Ogun’s Adebutu pledged to secure farms and highways and restore local government autonomy.

Meanwhile, Enugu State reiterated its ban on campaign posters, threatening N50 million fines, while Kwara’s PDP and state government clashed over billboard removals. Kano State warned against hate speech and urged issue-based contests.

Human rights lawyer Monday Ubani cautioned political actors against allowing the race to degenerate into intimidation, citing past election violence and recent tensions, and urged INEC, security agencies and citizens to work toward peaceful, credible polls.

CDA News Nigeria will continue tracking campaign developments across the states ahead of 2027.
