The political atmosphere in the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency has become increasingly tense following an exchange of statements between supporters of former Abia State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, and the camp of the member representing the constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the latest development followed a statement attributed to Aguocha’s media team, which reportedly criticized the Orji family and questioned Chinedum Orji’s ongoing consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a swift response, a group identifying itself as the Concerned Stakeholders of Ikwuano/Umuahia dismissed the allegations, describing them as politically motivated and lacking substance.
The stakeholders defended the Orji family’s record in public service, citing what they described as years of constituency projects, empowerment programmes, scholarships, healthcare interventions, and other developmental initiatives.
The group also challenged Aguocha’s supporters to present what they described as verifiable achievements since his election to the House of Representatives. They further argued that unresolved court cases should not be treated as convictions.
The stakeholders also criticized remarks directed at the late patriarch of the Orji family, insisting that political debates should remain respectful and focused on issues rather than personal attacks.
CDA News Nigeria could not independently verify the claims made by either side at the time of filing this report. Efforts to obtain additional comments from representatives of Hon. Obi Aguocha were ongoing.
