ABUJA, Nigeria — US President Donald Trump has reaffirmed America’s commitment to supporting Nigeria in the fight against terrorism, promising closer cooperation with President Bola Tinubu’s administration to improve national security. The pledge was contained in a letter dated July 6, 2026, in which Trump praised Tinubu’s efforts to tackle insecurity and violence affecting Christian communities.
According to CDA News Nigeria, Trump said the US-Nigeria relationship has continued to grow stronger through cooperation in security and other strategic sectors. He described it as an honour to stand with Nigeria in confronting terrorist groups and promoting peace and prosperity.
The letter came as the US government reiterated that jihadist terrorist organisations remain a global threat despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations. Washington pledged to continue working with partner nations, including Nigeria, through diplomacy, financial measures and military cooperation.
“It is a true honour to stand with your administration in the fight against terrorists and to help make the Federal Republic of Nigeria stronger and more prosperous,” Trump wrote in the letter to President Tinubu.
The renewed commitment is expected to strengthen existing security collaboration between both countries as Nigeria continues military operations against insurgent and terrorist groups in several parts of the country.
