City Boy Movement, FCT APC Target 42,000 Volunteers for 2027 Election Campaign

The City Boy Movement in collaboration with the Federal Capital Territory chapter of the All Progressives Congress has launched an ambitious recruitment drive targeting 42,000 volunteers ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The initiative, unveiled at a strategic planning session in Abuja, aims to build a formidable grassroots canvassing structure across the six area councils of the FCT. Organisers say the volunteer corps will serve as polling unit agents, voter education officers, and digital campaign foot soldiers.

Movement coordinators described the 42,000 target as realistic given the FCT’s growing youth population and the administration’s infrastructure investments in satellite towns. They emphasised that volunteers would receive training on electoral procedures, conflict de-escalation, and social media advocacy.

The drive signals early positioning by the APC to consolidate its 2023 electoral gains in the nation’s capital, where President Bola Tinubu secured significant support. Analysts note the volunteer target represents one of the most ambitious opposition-party mobilisation efforts for the upcoming cycle.

Opposition parties have dismissed the initiative as political theatre, arguing that volunteer numbers cannot substitute for performance-based voter confidence. However, APC strategists insist early mobilisation is essential for defending incumbency in a competitive electoral landscape.
