The New Nigeria Peoples Party has reacted to the ongoing leadership crisis within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), criticizing former presidential aspirant Rabiu Kwankwaso for actions they claim have deepened divisions within the party.
In a statement released on Thursday, NNPP officials said the ADC leadership dispute has caused confusion among members and supporters, calling for internal reconciliation and adherence to electoral laws to resolve the conflict.
“We believe the ADC must address its internal differences transparently and in accordance with the law. Some interventions, particularly by Kwankwaso, have unfortunately exacerbated the situation rather than fostering unity,” the statement read.
The party highlighted that INEC’s derecognition of the factions led by David Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe was a legal measure following conflicting claims over ADC’s national leadership. NNPP stressed that political stakeholders should respect institutional processes and judicial pronouncements.
Political analysts note that opposition party crises like that of ADC could have ripple effects on coalition building and voter confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections. They argue that resolving disputes internally, without external interference, is crucial for party credibility.
NNPP urged ADC leaders to prioritize dialogue, reconciliation, and compliance with statutory provisions to prevent further destabilization of the party and to focus on strengthening opposition efforts in Nigeria’s political landscape.
