Court activities in Kwara and Kaduna states have been completely paralyzed as judicial workers began an indefinite strike over unmet welfare demands and issues of judiciary autonomy.
The strike, led by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JSUN), has seen court gates locked and courtrooms deserted, halting all judicial proceedings. The union is protesting the failure of state governments to implement a new salary structure and other welfare packages, alongside persistent issues concerning the financial autonomy of the judiciary.
“This is a necessary step to compel the government to honor its agreements and respect the independence of the judicial arm,” a local JSUN official stated.
The industrial action has left lawyers, litigants, and visitors stranded at court complexes, causing a significant disruption to the justice system in both states. No date has been set for the resumption of negotiations
