Wike: Fubara Biggest Loser in Rivers Political Crisis, Missed Second-Term Opportunity

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has described Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the biggest loser in the political crisis that has engulfed the state since 2023.

According to CDA News Nigeria, Wike made the remarks during a media chat in Port Harcourt on Saturday, where he alleged that Governor Fubara relied on poor political advice that worsened the crisis and cost him the opportunity of securing a second term in office.

The former Rivers governor argued that Fubara’s inability to preside over the most recent local government elections and his strained relationship with the State House of Assembly were indications that he had lost political control.

Wike maintained that impeachment is a constitutional process but should be handled with caution and employed only within the limits of the law. He also claimed that reconciliation efforts failed because of the advice given to the governor by some of his associates.

The FCT minister further stated that he had previously supported Fubara’s political future, adding that completing key infrastructure projects would have strengthened the governor’s chances of re-election.

CDA News Nigeria reports that Wike’s comments come amid continued political tensions in Rivers State. At the time of filing this report, Governor Siminalayi Fubara had not publicly responded to the latest remarks.
