A soldier and a police officer have been killed during a military operation that led to the rescue of nine abducted victims from suspected bandits in Zamfara State.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the operation was carried out by security personnel during a coordinated mission aimed at rescuing kidnapped victims and combating banditry in parts of the state.
The rescued victims were freed after security operatives engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun battle. However, a soldier and a police officer paid the ultimate price while carrying out the operation.
Authorities said the rescued victims have been taken to safety, where they are receiving medical attention and other necessary support following their ordeal.
Security agencies reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining ongoing operations against bandits and other criminal groups threatening peace and security in Zamfara and the wider North-West region.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Zamfara remains one of the states most affected by banditry and kidnapping, with security forces continuing intensified operations to dismantle criminal camps and restore normalcy.
Investigations and follow-up operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and prevent further attacks in the affected communities.
