The Labour Party (LP) has called on opposition parties and political movements to unite under its existing platform rather than create new political alliances ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to CDA News Nigeria, the party said forming new coalitions could weaken the opposition and reduce its chances of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, on behalf of the Labour Party and the G-100 Coalition Group, the party maintained that it already possesses the nationwide structure and institutional capacity needed to mount a strong challenge in the next presidential election.
The statement noted that the Labour Party’s longstanding relationship with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) provides it with a broad grassroots network spanning polling units, wards and local government areas across the country.
Asogwa argued that the party enjoys extensive nationwide support through serving and retired civil servants, describing the Labour Party as the strongest opposition platform capable of producing a credible alternative government in 2027.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the Labour Party urged opposition leaders to prioritise unity and consolidate behind a single viable platform, insisting that a fragmented opposition would only strengthen the ruling party’s electoral prospects.
