US Urges Nigeria to Protect Christians in Security Talks

ABUJA – In a pivotal round of bilateral security talks concluded on Tuesday, the United States government explicitly called on Nigeria to take stronger measures to protect its Christian population from escalating violence.

The dialogue, led by senior officials from both nations, focused on the rising insecurity in Nigeria’s northern and central regions. The US delegation highlighted targeted attacks on Christian communities by armed groups, urging concrete actions to ensure their safety and bring perpetrators to justice.

The Nigerian delegation reiterated its commitment to securing all citizens, regardless of faith. They outlined ongoing military and community-based initiatives, while acknowledging the complex challenges posed by terrorism and inter-communal conflicts.

This direct appeal from a key international partner underscores growing global concern over religious-based violence in Nigeria and places additional diplomatic pressure on the federal government.
