Rivers CJ Declines to Set Up Probe Panel for Gov Fubara

PORT HARCOURT – The political crisis in Rivers State intensified on Wednesday as the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, declined a request from the State House of Assembly to constitute a panel to investigate Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The request, based on allegations of misconduct against the governor, was made by the Martin Amaewhule-led faction of the assembly. In a letter cited by CDA News, the Chief Judge cited the ongoing legal complexities and multiple lawsuits surrounding the legitimacy of the assembly and its leadership as reasons for his decision.

This refusal is seen as a major setback for the governor’s opponents in the legislature and could prolong the political deadlock that has gripped the state for months. Supporters of Governor Fubara have hailed the decision as a victory for due process.

Legal and political observers await the next move from the State Assembly as pressure continues to mount.
