Akpabio Appeals to Supreme Court, Seeks to Overturn Tribunal Ruling

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has formally approached the Supreme Court, seeking to set aside the judgment of the Court of Appeal which nullified his victory in the Akwa Ibom Northwest senatorial election.

The appeal, filed by his legal team on Monday, argues that the appellate court erred in law and misapplied electoral guidelines in its decision. Akpabio maintains that the election was conducted in substantial compliance with the Electoral Act and urges the apex court to restore his mandate.

The case has drawn significant national attention due to Akpabio’s prominent role in the National Assembly. Legal analysts expect the Supreme Court to list the matter for hearing in the coming weeks.

Supporters in Akwa Ibom State have expressed optimism, while opponents await the final judicial determination.
