The Federal Government has officially flagged off the reconstruction of the 122.89-kilometre Kaduna (Mando)-Birnin Gwari Road at a cost of N178.116 billion, marking a major step toward improving transportation, security and economic activities in Northern Nigeria.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani during the groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, said the project fulfills a campaign promise and demonstrates his administration’s commitment to delivering critical infrastructure nationwide.
Minister of Works, David Umahi, described the road as a strategic corridor linking Kaduna to Niger, Kwara, Osun, Oyo and Lagos. He noted that the reconstruction would reduce travel time, lower transportation costs, strengthen security and boost agricultural production and regional trade.
Umahi also dismissed claims that the Federal Government was neglecting existing roads, stating that several major highways across the country are currently under reconstruction.
The minister praised Governor Uba Sani for consistently advocating the project, emphasizing that the road would reconnect communities previously affected by insecurity and poor infrastructure.
