Professor Dozie Appointed as New Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Technology Owerri

A new and significant chapter has opened in the institutional history of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) as Professor Dozie has been officially appointed as the university’s new Vice Chancellor — a development that has been warmly received by the academic community, students, alumni, staff, and well-wishers of one of Nigeria’s most respected and strategically important higher institutions of learning.

The appointment of Professor Dozie to the helm of FUTO — a university that has for decades stood as a flagship institution for science, technology, engineering, and innovation education in Nigeria and across the African continent — signals the beginning of what many stakeholders are already describing as a potentially transformational new era for the institution.

Professor Dozie brings to the office a wealth of academic credentials, research experience, and institutional leadership qualities that have earned him considerable respect within Nigeria’s higher education community. His appointment is expected to inject fresh energy, strategic vision, and renewed academic direction into FUTO’s administration at a time when Nigerian universities face mounting pressures to modernise their curricula, strengthen research output, improve infrastructure, and deepen industry partnerships in line with global best practices.

The new Vice Chancellor inherits a university with enormous potential and a proud legacy of producing some of Nigeria’s finest engineers, technologists, scientists, and innovators — graduates who have gone on to make significant contributions to national development and to the global economy. Stakeholders within and outside the university are hopeful that his tenure will build on that proud foundation while boldly addressing the challenges that continue to limit FUTO’s full realisation of its enormous institutional promise.

Students, academic staff, non-academic staff, and the vibrant FUTO alumni community have expressed optimism and goodwill toward the incoming Vice Chancellor, with many calling on him to prioritise improved welfare for staff and students, enhanced research funding, upgraded campus infrastructure, stronger industry-academia linkages, and a transparent and merit-driven administration that upholds the highest standards of academic integrity.
The Federal Ministry of Education and the National Universities Commission (NUC) are expected to formally congratulate the new Vice Chancellor in the coming hours, as the transition of leadership at FUTO gets officially underway.

CDA News Nigeria congratulates Professor Dozie on his well-deserved appointment and wishes him a fruitful, impactful, and historic tenure at the helm of the Federal University of Technology Owerri.
