ABUJA: The G100, a coalition of concerned Nigerians, says it has concluded the first round of consultations with leaders of six opposition political parties as part of efforts to build a united platform ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Monday and signed by Salihu Moh. Lukman on behalf of the G100, the group said it engaged prominent opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as well as Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The group also disclosed that it held discussions with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and Social Democratic Party (SDP).
According to the statement, the consultations involved national chairmen, presidential candidates and running mates of the parties.
G100 described the meetings as “frank, constructive and encouraging,” saying they focused on the possibility of greater cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The coalition is seeking to facilitate a broad opposition alliance capable of challenging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the 2027 polls.
The consultations come amid growing calls among opposition politicians and groups for strategic cooperation, including the possibility of a common presidential candidate.
The G100 said the first phase of consultations is only the beginning, with further engagements expected as stakeholders work towards a possible united opposition arrangement.
