Boko Haram Insurgents Kill Police Inspector, Seven Civilians in Adamawa Attack

YOLA — Suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Gaya community in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Monday night, killing a police inspector and seven civilians in the latest assault on the area .

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the attackers invaded the community at night, setting two houses ablaze during the assault. The Chairman of Hong Local Government Area, Aliyu Sa’ad, confirmed the attack, stating that security forces have been deployed to track down the perpetrators .

The Adamawa State Police Command also confirmed the incident. Police spokesperson, Suleiman Nguroje, said five bodies—four civilians and a police inspector—were recovered after the attackers fled. He noted that troops, vigilantes, and hunters have been deployed to pursue the assailants .

CDA News Nigeria reports that Hong Local Government Area has experienced repeated Boko Haram attacks in recent months, attributed to the communities’ proximity to the Sambisa Forest in neighbouring Borno State . Gaya District lies near the forest, which has served as a base for insurgent operations.

Residents have expressed growing concern over the worsening security situation. Local authorities noted that a proposed military barracks at Garaha, intended to secure the area, is yet to commence operations . Hong LGA is also the hometown of two former Secretaries to the Government of the Federation: David Babachir Lawal and Boss Mustapha .
