Security operatives also apprehended a traditional healer, a medical practitioner, and a suspected fake lawyer allegedly providing support to criminal networks.
The Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) have arrested suspected bandit informants and recovered several newly acquired walkie-talkies allegedly used to provide intelligence and communication support to bandit groups operating in the state.
Authorities also reportedly arrested a traditional healer, a medical practitioner accused of treating injured bandits, and a suspected fake lawyer, underscoring the complexity of the networks sustaining banditry in the North-West.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the arrests highlight a disturbing reality: banditry is not sustained by armed criminals alone. Behind the gunmen are networks of people providing information, communication, medical assistance, logistics, and other forms of support that enable attacks and help perpetrators evade capture.
The operation comes as Zamfara and other states in the North-West continue to battle banditry, which has led to thousands of deaths, mass abductions, and the displacement of entire communities. The recovery of modern communication equipment suggests that bandit groups are upgrading their capabilities, making intelligence-driven operations even more critical.
The big question now is: How widespread are these support networks within affected communities, and what more can security agencies do to identify and dismantle those enabling banditry from within? As the CPG continues its operations, communities have been urged to remain vigilant, while security operations should be based on credible intelligence and due process to ensure innocent civilians are not wrongly targeted.
The fight against banditry requires not only confronting the gunmen, but also disrupting the networks that enable them.
