The former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources has quit the ruling party, describing it as a “floundering ship” with a “sealed fate.”
Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) with immediate effect . In a letter addressed to the APC chairman in Ward 4, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Sylva, a founding member of the APC, said the party had abandoned its founding ideals .
He also accused the APC-led government of President Bola Tinubu of disappointing Nigerians . “The present Government, formed under the banner of the APC we once loved, has disappointed the vast majority of Nigerians,” Sylva stated . He said he was left with no choice but to abandon a “floundering ship” .
Sylva’s resignation comes after the EFCC declared him wanted over alleged $14.86 million fraud, and amid a 13-count charge over an alleged plot to topple President Tinubu’s administration . He is listed as “still at large” in the court case .
CDA News Nigeria reports that Sylva deliberately copied the EFCC in his resignation letter, accusing the anti-graft agency of being partisan. “I am deliberately putting the EFCC in copy of this letter because, of late, it has conducted itself more as an organ of the APC than as an institution of State,” he said . He acknowledged that his action could invite a “redoubled witch-hunt” .
