ADC Presidential Candidate Atiku Abubakar has faulted the Tinubu administration over the current pump price of petrol, noting that Nigerians now pay as much as N1,470 per litre despite crude oil trading at $102.52 per barrel, far below the $147 it fetched in 2008 when petrol sold for N65 under President Umar Yar’Adua.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that in a statement by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, the ADC presidential candidate accused the administration of presiding over an organised system of grand larceny built around opaque FAAC deductions, questionable oil revenue management and alleged off-book transactions.
Atiku demanded a comprehensive reconciliation of Federation Account revenues from 2023 to date, citing June 2025 records showing N4.232 trillion in gross revenue against only N1.818 trillion eventually distributed, with the balance categorised under collection costs, transfers and savings.
He also called for full disclosure on the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund, OML 143, NNPC’s LNG trading operations, offshore corporate structures and allegations of unofficial crude lifting, insisting independent forensic auditors should verify the records.
Comparing fuel affordability, Atiku noted that US petrol sells at roughly $1.14 per litre against a $7.25 hourly minimum wage, while Nigeria’s N70,000 monthly minimum wage leaves citizens facing near-American fuel prices with Nigerian poverty wages.
