…Police, DSS Urged to Investigate Vandalism of Campaign Materials in Bende
Reports from Uzuakoli in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State indicate that several campaign billboards belonging to the Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been vandalised.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the affected billboards reportedly carried the images of President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Dr. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, and other APC candidates campaigning in Bende.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the development has generated concern among APC supporters and residents who view the alleged destruction of campaign materials as an unacceptable development in the build-up to the 2027 elections.
Although accusing fingers are being pointed in the direction of the Labour Party, the identities and political affiliations of the perpetrators have not been independently established. It is therefore important that the appropriate authorities conduct a thorough investigation to establish what happened and identify those responsible.
The incident has also prompted calls on the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and other relevant authorities to investigate the matter and take appropriate action if anyone is found culpable.
The vandalism adds to growing concerns over political tension in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the recent clash between APC and ADC supporters in Kaduna and the alleged plot by the Labour Party to disrupt collation in Bende, which the APC raised alarm over earlier.
CDA News Nigeria reports that no official statement has been issued by the Abia State Police Command or the Labour Party regarding the incident as of the time of filing this report. The specific claims about the perpetrators’ identities remain unverified.Â
