US President Donald Trump hosted Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House on Thursday, September 24, 2026, for an official three-day state visit, marking Xi’s first visit to the White House in over a decade.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that Trump and First Lady Melania Trump welcomed Xi and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan, in a state arrival ceremony on the South Lawn featuring 479 military personnel, before the two leaders held discussions in the Oval Office covering trade, tariffs, the Iran war and artificial intelligence.
According to reports, Trump said he and Xi had made “tremendous strides” on national security, trade and technology, while Xi, speaking through a translator, said the US and China “stand to gain from cooperation and will both lose in confrontation.” Both countries agreed to extend their trade truce until January and reduce tariffs on $30 billion worth of goods, though no agreement was reached on AI safeguards.
The visit culminated in a lavish state dinner in the East Room, attended by top tech executives including Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Sam Altman, Jensen Huang and Tim Cook, alongside Cabinet members and lawmakers.
The visit comes four months after Trump was hosted by Xi in Beijing, continuing a diplomatic exchange between the world’s two largest economies. Xi and his wife were scheduled to depart the US on Friday after a private tea and tour of the National Archives.
