The Katsina State Police Command says it has repelled two separate bandit attacks in the Kankia and Musawa Local Government Areas, rescuing three kidnapped victims, recovering 12 rustled cows and neutralising one suspected bandit.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday in Katsina.
According to the statement, the Divisional Police Officer in Kankia mobilised and led a combined team of police operatives and local vigilantes to the scene after receiving a report. The police said the three kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families, and that all the rustled cows were recovered.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that a later cordon-and-search operation led to the recovery of the body of one suspected bandit, with a machete found beside him.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, commended the operatives for what he described as their gallantry and professionalism. The police urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and activities to the security agencies.
The statement, as received by CDA News Nigeria, did not give the names or ages of the rescued victims, the number of attackers or the exact times of the attacks. It also did not say whether any arrests were made or whether any casualties occurred among residents.
Katsina is among the north-western states that have faced repeated attacks by armed groups, and security operations in affected areas are continuing.
