The announcement has been received with widespread excitement across the country, coming at a time when the rising cost of living, soaring fuel prices, and expensive road transportation have placed enormous financial strain on ordinary Nigerians struggling to meet their daily needs.
The 50% discount effectively halves the cost of rail travel for passengers on NRC routes, making train transportation significantly more affordable and attractive as an alternative to road travel — which remains expensive, dangerous, and increasingly unreliable due to the poor state of many of Nigeria’s federal highways.
