ADC Supporter Injured in Edo Gun Attack on Party Leaders’ Convoy

A supporter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Jerry Oliha, was reportedly wounded in a gun attack on a convoy of party leaders in Igueben Local Government Area of Edo State on Tuesday, the party has alleged.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the party’s Edo Central senatorial candidate, Herberta Okonofua, and former governorship aspirant Kenneth Imasuangbon reportedly escaped unhurt. The attack occurred during political engagements in the area.

In a statement, the ADC’s Edo State Publicity Secretary, Chris Ojeikere, said Oliha, a supporter from Ward 6, was shot at the premises of the Enogie of Igueben and taken to Irrua Specialist Hospital, where he was receiving treatment.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the party described the incident as the third attack on the entourage that day, following earlier shootings in Wards 4 and 5. It alleged that the attackers were loyalists of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the Chairman of the Igueben Local Government Council, Endurance Azemegbe. The party also said the attack was part of a pattern of violence against its members and facilities in Etsako East, Owan West and Owan East.

Azemegbe denied any involvement, saying he was not in Igueben when the shooting occurred and only heard about it from journalists.

The party said it reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer in Igueben and demanded a thorough investigation. The Edo State Police spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, said the command could not immediately confirm the incident and would act when it was formally reported.

The claims about who carried out the attack have not been independently verified, and no arrests had been announced at the time of filing.
