…Prof. Adesanya-Davies Urges Nigerians to Become Everyday Architects of Peace
The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN POLAC) Peace Consul in Nigeria, Prof. Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has called on Nigerians and global citizens to actively invest in peace, describing it as a daily responsibility rather than a passive gift.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Prof. Adesanya-Davies made the call in a press statement issued on Monday, September 21, 2026, to commemorate the 45th observance of the International Day of Peace, themed “Invest in Peace — For Everyone, Everywhere, Every Day.”
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the Peace Consul said this year’s theme honours the “everyday architects of peace” — ordinary men and women, youth, teachers, faith leaders, mothers, volunteers, community organisers, and peacekeepers who build stable, inclusive, and peaceful communities from the grassroots.
She emphasised that true peace is not merely the absence of war or a 24-hour ceasefire, but the presence of safety in homes, schools, and streets; dignity and respect for human rights; opportunity through education, health, social protection, and sustainable development; and daily cooperation through dialogue, diplomacy, and negotiation.
“Peace is lived. It is shaped in classrooms, in neighbourhoods, in marketplaces, and everywhere people meet with open minds and open hearts,” she said.
Prof. Adesanya-Davies called on Nigerians, Africans, and global citizens to give their time to help others in their communities, lend their voices against violence and injustice, encourage dialogue by hosting Peace Circles, and use their platforms to promote peace and hope. She urged investment not only of money but of time, talents, ideas, care, and commitment in education, children, justice, and one another.
“As we mark this day with the ringing of the Peace Bell at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, let it ring also in our hearts here in Nigeria. Peace is possible. Peace is our collective work,” she said.
The statement was signed by Iquo Halo Eton, Special Assistant/Public Relations, Office of the United Nations POLAC Peace Consul and Secretary General of BOT, UN-POLAC.
