…Abia Governor Insists He Has No Governorship Godfather, Says Tenure Will Speak for Itself
Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has ruled out any ambition to contest the presidency after his tenure, declaring that he will retire from active politics once his time as governor ends.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Otti made the declaration during a media parley in Umuahia, where he addressed a range of issues concerning his administration and political future.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the governor stated, “I have no intention to run for President. When I finish as governor, I will go and rest. I am not a career politician.”
Otti, a former bank chief executive who took office in 2023, said his focus remains on delivering good governance to the people of Abia State within his current mandate, stressing that his tenure should be judged by the legacy projects and reforms his administration delivers.
The governor also addressed the question of political godfathers, insisting that he owes his position to God and the people of Abia State, not to any political benefactor. He said his administration has demonstrated independence in decision-making and remains committed to the state’s development.
On the ongoing dispute over the financial position of the state at the end of his predecessor’s tenure, Otti maintained that his government has been transparent with the facts and figures, adding that his administration remains focused on repositioning the state’s finances and delivering infrastructure.
The governor also reaffirmed his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance, saying his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of Abia residents.
CDA News Nigeria reports that Otti’s declaration comes amid heightened political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections, with several political figures positioning themselves for various offices across the state and the South-East.
