…Suspects Nabbed on Unregistered Motorcycle During Visibility Patrol
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspects and recovered a six-round English-made pistol during a stop-and-search operation in Nnewi North Local Government Area of the state.
CDA News Nigeria reports that the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, saying the recovery was made on the evening of September 26.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that a joint team from the Rapid Response Squad, Nnewi Sector, and Police Mobile Force 54 conducted a visibility patrol within Nnewi North metropolis when they stopped the suspects, identified as 33-year-old Ekwulugo Chiemierie Joseph and 29-year-old Enyiobi Geoffrey Somtochukwu, while travelling on a Tiger 150 motorcycle without a registration number.
A search of the men and their motorcycle allegedly led to the recovery of the firearm. The suspects have been taken into custody and are assisting police with investigations, which Ikenga said will determine how they came into possession of the pistol, where it was obtained, and what it was intended for.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, said the recovery underscores the importance of sustained police visibility and well-coordinated stop-and-search operations as part of the command’s intelligence-led, community-based policing strategy, particularly in disrupting the movement of firearms that could facilitate violent crime.
The command assured residents of Nnewi and Anambra State that it would continue to sustain proactive patrols and called on the public to promptly report suspicious persons or activities within their communities.
