A fresh crisis is brewing within the Umuahia Premier Club following a strongly worded statement by its Umuahia Branch President, Premier Ako Obioma, accusing the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha, of ingratitude and abandonment.
CDA News Nigeria gathered that the statement, addressed to “Prem Ebo,” has leaked and is circulating widely across WhatsApp groups in Ohuhu, Umuahia and Ikwuano, generating heated debate. In it, Obioma, who identified himself as Aguocha’s political godfather and sponsor, claimed he was instrumental in securing Aguocha the Labour Party ticket in 2023 after the lawmaker lost out in the PDP primaries, describing it at the time as a “family agenda.”
Obioma further alleged that since the 2023 elections, Aguocha has neither attended Prem meetings nor paid his dues, aside from a recent N500,000 payment he claimed followed intervention by the party’s national leadership ahead of 2027. He also alleged that Aguocha has not visited his residence since a Labour Party delegation reportedly thanked him for his role in the 2023 Umuahia South result, apart from briefly attending one meeting convened by a third party.
Responding to claims that he was envious of the lawmaker, Obioma challenged Aguocha to publicly disclose how he emerged as a candidate, maintaining that the club’s support template had benefited Aguocha without any formal endorsement.
The development follows a rejoinder dated September 21, 2026, in which the Umuahia Branch leadership, signed by Obioma and Secretary Premier Chuka Agomoh, had earlier debunked reports that the club endorsed Aguocha for a second term, describing the claim as unauthorised and void.
Efforts to obtain Hon. Obi Aguocha’s reaction were unsuccessful as of press time.
