PORT HARCOURT – The Rivers Grassroots Movement (RGM), a coalition of concerned citizens, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, initiated by the Martins Amaewhule-led State House of Assembly.
In a statement issued by the group’s convener, Jackrich Sobomabo, the RGM dismissed allegations that Governor Fubara failed to present the 2025 budget, clarifying that the Rivers State Appropriation Bill was transmitted to the National Assembly during the state of emergency regime and passed into law on June 25, 2025.
“Rivers State operates under a valid fiscal framework that remains fully operational,” Sobomabo stated, citing constitutional provisions that allow expenditure for up to six months where an Appropriation Act is in place.
The group commended Fubara’s “exemplary prudence and transparency” in managing state resources and delivering infrastructure, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment projects.
Emphasizing the need for stability in Rivers State and its importance to the APC’s national structure, the RGM declared its support for Fubara and Odu’s re-election in 2027.
“Rivers State deserves peace, progress, and prosperity. We stand united for a better future,” the statement concluded.
The appeal comes amid deepening political divisions in the state, with the Assembly pressing ahead with impeachment proceedings despite growing calls for presidential intervention to restore calm.
