LAGOS – The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded sharply to recent comments by former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal, who declared that “Nigeria is in peril and needs urgent salvation.”
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo, on Tuesday, the Lagos APC described Tambuwal’s remarks as “a classic case of misplaced moral outrage” and challenged him to reflect on his own stewardship while in office rather than engage in “political theatre.”
“Nigerians remember the years when Tambuwal occupied strategic positions in government and the dividends of leadership expected at those times. Sadly, rather than offering a candid reckoning with his record or apologising for missed opportunities, he has chosen to sermonise from a pedestal of selective amnesia,” the statement read.
The party noted that Tambuwal’s recent 60th birthday colloquium presented an opportunity for “sober reflection and an honest recap of stewardship,” but that he instead “cleverly sidestepped” it.
Oladejo asserted that Nigeria’s challenges were not created by the current administration alone and that many critics, including Tambuwal, were “active participants—if not architects—of the policy inertia, political brinkmanship and economic drift that constrained national progress for years.”
The Lagos APC called on Tambuwal to embrace humility, restitution, and support for the ongoing reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, rather than what it termed “apocalyptic rhetoric designed to harvest fleeting relevance.”
