Ogun Police Arrest 56-Year-Old Man Over Wife’s Death in Suspected Arson Fire

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 56-year-old man, Madarikan Emehinola, over the death of his 40-year-old wife, Igbagbo Erobe, in a house fire in the Igbo-Edu area of Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the incident, suspected to be a case of arson, was reported at the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters on Sunday following information that a house had been set ablaze, resulting in the woman’s death.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by its Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi. The command added that the deceased’s body had been deposited at a mortuary for post-mortem examination.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the arrest marks a significant development in the investigation into the fire, which has raised concerns about domestic safety and arson in the community. Police sources indicated that preliminary findings suggested the fire may not have been accidental, prompting the detention of the husband.

The Police Public Relations Officer urged members of the public to remain calm and cooperate with investigators as the case progresses. He said further updates would be provided as the investigation unfolds.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that residents of Igbo-Edu expressed shock over the incident, calling for a thorough probe to establish the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death. The case has been transferred to the appropriate unit for detailed investigation.

The command assured that justice would be served and that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
