Ex-Delta Governor Uduaghan Dies at 71

Former Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, has died after a brief illness. He was 71.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the two-term governor, who led Delta State from 2007 to 2015, passed away on the morning of Monday, October 19, 2026—just three days before his 72nd birthday. His death was announced in a statement signed by his son, Toju Anire Uduaghan, on behalf of the family.

The family described the loss as devastating, saying: “His passing has left us devastated. Words can hardly express the depth of our sorrow at the loss of a man who meant so much to our family and whose life and service touched countless others across Delta State and Nigeria”.

Before his governorship, Uduaghan served as Delta State Commissioner for Health from 1999 to 2003 and as Secretary to the State Government from 2003 to 2007. His administration was noted for the “Delta Beyond Oil” initiative, the Free Maternal and Child Healthcare Programme, and the construction of the Asaba International Airport.

The family said his death was a profound loss to Delta State and Nigeria, and prayed for the repose of his soul.
