ABUJA – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has publicly countered widespread rumours of his alleged collapse and medical emergency by sharing verified photographs of himself presiding over Tuesday’s Senate plenary.
The rumours, which proliferated on social media and an online platform, claimed Akpabio collapsed on December 10 and was urgently flown to London for treatment aboard a private jet linked to businessman Aliko Dangote.
In a direct rebuttal, Akpabio posted images on his official X account showing him actively engaging with senators during the session, where ambassadorial nominees were screened. “Today, Tuesday, December 16, 2025, I presided over Plenary,” he stated, dismissing the reports.
Responding to the incident, the Senate has mandated the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Mr. Oluwatosin Adeola Ajayi, to urgently investigate the origins of the false claims.
The resolution followed a motion by Senator Titus Zam (APC, Benue North-West), who condemned the rumours as “fake, irresponsible and capable of misleading the public.” He stressed that the nation’s number three citizen should be protected from such malicious misinformation and called for the prosecution of those responsible.
