Deputy Speaker Kalu Flags Off Renewed Hope Light Up Project in Bende

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, has flagged off the Renewed Hope Light Up Project in Bende Federal Constituency, Abia State.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the initiative targets 42,000 households across the 13 electoral wards with solar lights and includes the distribution of 26 power transformers to connect communities to the national grid.

Kalu, who represents the constituency, explained that the project followed a needs assessment revealing darkness as a major challenge. He noted that the intervention aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s eight-point Renewed Hope Agenda to improve economic life, human capacity development, and security.

To ensure accountability and prevent diversion, Kalu disclosed that the solar installations are geo-located and programmed via an app. He noted this is the first time 42,000 homes in a single federal constituency will receive solar power in Nigeria. Each unit comes with a 10-year maintenance agreement.

The Deputy Speaker also signed a N100 million contract with the electricity company for the restoration of light to Item and Alayi Wards, which have been disconnected for years. Constituents at the event pledged massive support for Kalu and President Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
