FG Spends N5.15trn on Military Operations

The Federal Government has disbursed N5.15 trillion in special intervention funds to the Nigerian military and related security agencies between November 2023 and September 2026.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that the funds were released through 30 payment transactions from a dedicated special intervention account, representing 91.15 per cent of the N5.65 trillion received over the period. The records were presented to the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) Technical Sub-Committee in Abuja on October 14, 2026.

The disbursements were separate from regular annual budgetary allocations to the Ministry of Defence, indicating additional financial resources channelled towards security operations. However, the documents did not provide a breakdown of specific operations, equipment purchases, or personnel costs financed.

The funding pattern began with monthly N100 billion transfers in late 2023 and continued through 2025, before increasing significantly in 2026 to between N200 billion and N500 billion per transaction. In 2026 alone, N2.75 trillion was released to the military, accounting for over half of the total disbursed since the programme began.

CDA News Nigeria reports that the increased spending comes amid persistent insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping across several parts of the country.
