Okorocha Celebrates Court Victory

Former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, is celebrating a major legal victory after a Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the nomination of Governor Hope Uzodimma as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District.

CDA News Nigeria gathered that Justice Obiora Egwuatu, in a ruling delivered on Thursday, declared Okorocha as the lawful winner of the party’s May 18, 2026 primary election. The court ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to set aside Uzodimma’s name and restore Okorocha’s as the authentic candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The judge heavily criticized the APC’s nomination process, noting that the documents tendered to justify Uzodimma’s candidacy contradicted each other and appeared to be fabricated. The court also faulted INEC for accepting the governor’s nomination despite overwhelming evidence from its own officials that Okorocha won the primary.

Reacting to the judgment, Okorocha’s camp described it as a vindication of the former governor, who had faced media accusations of forging results. Okorocha maintained that he remains the dominant APC leader in Imo State, stating that he built the party’s grassroots structure.

Despite the ruling, the Imo State APC chapter has insisted that Uzodimma remains its candidate, indicating plans to challenge the judgment. CDA News Nigeria reports that the legal battle continues to expose the deep political divisions within the Imo APC as the 2027 election approaches.
