Wike Defends Inclusion of EFCC-Investigated Person on Tinubu Campaign Team

The FCT Minister argued that an ongoing investigation is not a conviction, stating that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has defended the inclusion of individuals currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on President Bola Tinubu’s campaign team . Wike made these remarks during an event in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, where he spoke about the composition of the 2027 presidential campaign team .

According to a statement by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, Wike argued that an ongoing investigation is not a conviction and that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty. “This is a campaign team, not a judicial panel. We are not going to wait for the conclusion of investigations before we start our campaign. If the EFCC has any case against anyone, they should go to court and prove it,” Wike said .

The FCT Minister also dismissed calls for the removal of the individual in question from the campaign team, describing such demands as “unnecessary distractions.” He stressed that the Tinubu campaign team is focused on the 2027 election and is determined to secure victory for the President.

Wike also reiterated his support for President Tinubu, saying he is prepared to be the President’s “thorn in the flesh” of those opposing him in the South-South and South-East regions. “I have the capacity to make sure he wins. They should watch out,” he warned .
