Former female presidential candidate and peace advocate, Bishop Professor Funmilayo Adesanya-Davies, has urgently called on the Federal Government to release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, linking his continued detention to the worsening security crisis across Nigeria.
Speaking from Abuja on May 22, 2026, the distinguished scholar and Secretary General of the Board of Trustees of UN-POLAC argued that Kanu’s prolonged incarceration has deepened anger, mistrust, and instability — particularly across the South-East region.
She stated that Nigeria is currently experiencing one of its most dangerous periods, with rampant kidnappings, banditry, communal clashes, ritual killings, and widespread economic hardship tormenting citizens daily.
“Nigeria needs healing, reconciliation, justice, dialogue, and restructuring — not continuous suppression,” she declared, describing Kanu’s potential release as a powerful symbolic step toward national peace.
Adesanya-Davies outlined key reasons for her call, including the failure of military force alone to curb insecurity, the need for genuine national reconciliation, respect for judicial pronouncements, and the prevention of deeper regional tensions.
She further advocated her “Renegotiation, Restructuring, and Regionalization (RRR)” framework as a sustainable pathway to lasting peace and justice.
The former presidential candidate appealed directly to President Bola Tinubu to demonstrate statesmanship by pursuing bold reconciliation measures capable of restoring national confidence.
