IKWUANO– The Amangwo Umuigu community is reeling from a brutal attack and the subsequent disappearance of Mr. Solomon Ikoku, an incident that has cast a pall over the eve of the sacred Iri Ji (New Yam) Festival and sparked protests for justice.

According to eyewitness accounts, on the morning of Saturday, September 27, 2025, a group of men allegedly led by Mr. Nwankwo Okoro attacked Solomon Ikoku in his home, severely injuring him before whisking him away. His current whereabouts remain unknown, and his decomposing body was later discovered in a local stream, reportedly missing its head and other parts.

The tragedy has been compounded by alleged death threats against the victim’s aged mother, Mrs. Onyekachi Ikoku, who witnessed the attack. A family member, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated, “They told us clearly that if we talk to the police, they will finish us. We are living in fear.”

The incident has provoked widespread outrage, leading residents to storm the Ikwuano Local Government Secretariat at Isiala Oboro. Protesters, chanting and holding placards, are demanding the recovery of Solomon’s missing body parts and justice for his killing.

Community leaders have confirmed that no prior complaint or accusation of wrongdoing had ever been lodged against Solomon Ikoku, with the Village Council Chairman, Chief Munachi Onwuchekwa, describing the attack as “totally unjustified.”

In response to the crisis, the Abia State CID in Umuahia has arrested seven suspects. However, the community and the victim’s family are calling for a thorough investigation, protection from further threats, and the prosecution of all individuals involved.
